Rhône Valley Promenade

This event took place in Hong Kong at ON Dining Kitchen & Lounge.

For our first Le Club FICOFI® Rhône Valley Promenade, we focused and explored “in depth” on 2 major appellations of this rich region.

We started with Hermitage. To understand the richness of this appellation, Jean-Luc Chapel from Paul Jaboulet Aîné guided us through a vertical tasting of the iconic Hermitage La Chapelle. Hermitage La Chapelle is lying in the famous lieu-dit of “Les Bessards”.

Nelly France from M. Chapoutier commented on an horizontal and vertical tasting of Michel Chapoutier “sélections parcellaires”: Ermitage "De l’Orée" blanc, L’Ermite, Ermitage “Le Méal”, Ermitage "Le Pavillon” which allowed to complete the “discovery” of the best lieux-dits and terroirs of Hermitage.

Moving from the Northern Rhone to the Southern part, we went to Châteauneuf-du-Pape and tasted a beautiful line-up of one of the most celebrated estates of this appellation, Château de Beaucastel, from the Perrin family. Through the tasting of 2009, 2007, 2005, 2003 & 2001, we deepened our understanding of each vintage characteristics of this wine that uses the 13 authorized grape varieties of the appellation (with a higher Mourvèdre component than is usual in Châteauneuf-du-Pape). We will also taste the wonderful - and hugely publicised - Château de Miraval, the combined (ad)venture in Provence of the Perrin family with Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie.
