Nestlé Mineral Waters
In the world of gastronomy mineral
waters have their place
France
has a reputation of being the country not only of wine but also of mineral
water: the countryside is rich in thermal springs and the French drink 145
litres of bottled water each year. Mineral water from underground water layers
and other geological reserves is rich in minerals and / or trace elements
which are stable and of great purity. Natural mineral water can claim health
related benefits which are substantiated by the French Medical Academy. From a
gastronomic perspective it is important when tasting wines to choose
well-balanced refreshing waters without affecting the taste of wine or food.
From this perspective the most highly recommended waters are Vittel
and Contrex in the still category, Contrex fines bulles in the
lightly sparkling category, and the delicious San Pellegrino from Italy
or Perrier Water from France in the sparkling category. All these
waters are regularly available in restaurants.
Contrex Fines Bulles cleans the palate between wines and has a subtle
flavour which brings out tastes without dominating them. Thanks to its
bicarbonate ingredients it is easily digested and is good for drinking during
a meal along with a little wine. Another great gastronomic water, but
sparkling this time, is the Italian San Peregrino. Its main characteristic is
one of lightness due to its intense sparkling nature and the fineness of its
bubbles and it goes extremely well with the most elegant of dishes. The
lightness of Perrier goes very well with white meats and light meals in
general.
If you prefer to drink a still water, Vittel and Contrex are both ideal
with a meal or at a wine tasting because they spread rapidly in the body, feel
light, and help to cleanse the system. Vittel is light and soft to the taste
with a slight astringency in its finish which brings a hint of freshness.
Contrex has more taste and is therefore better suited to stronger flavoured
food.
