DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER

Only three men have managed Domaine de Chevalier from time it was acquired by Arnaud and Jean Ricard in 1865 until it was purchased by my family in 1983. As for Jean Ricard, he is the true creator of Chevalier. However, his son-in-law, Gabriel Beaumartin, who was at Chevalier for forty years, was responsible for crystalizing its reputation. Claude Ricard has been running the estate for thirty-five years when the Bernard's family arrived. Under his leadership, the estate was included among the elite grands crus in the 1953 classification of the graves. It is also thanks to Claude Ricard that the Château gained a truly international dimension.
In 1983 the property was acquired by the Bernard family, leaders in the French spirits market and important traders of the best Bordeaux wines. The estate has been managed ever since by Olivier Bernard who remains loyal to 130 years of history in his search for Chevalier’s trademark balanced perfection. Today the Domain with its secret garden surrounded by an immense forest has become remarkably open to visitors wishing to penetrate the soul of Graves while experiencing a welcome in the best traditions.

The entire estate covers one hundred hectares, 45 of which are under vine: 40 of these are devoted to producing red wine and 5 to white wine.
