Founded in 1992, Colgin Cellars produces handcrafted wines from exceptional hillside vineyards in the heart of the Napa Valley. Ann Colgin was a wine auctioneer for esteemed auction house Sotheby’s and for many years attended the Napa Valley Wine Auction. After numerous years of looking for land to produce wine from, she discovered an intensely rocky site from which to produce her first wine. This wine garnered immediate acclaim, and was the basis for the beginning of the estate. In the last two decades the winery has steadily discovered three additional vineyards from which to produce three Cabernet Sauvignon based wines and one Syrah.

The vineyard area from which at “IX Estate” Cabernet Sauvignon based wine is vinified is 16 acres (6.5 hectares) of extremely rocky iron-rich volcanic soil located in the hills above eastern Oakville. This intensely steep Eastern facing slope is between 1100-1400 feet. Carved out from a much larger parcel, the land that became the “IX Estate” vineyard was virgin forest, which was planted in the late 1990s by Ann Colgin and her husband Joe Wender. The purpose was to create a larger vineyard site from land which had the potential to reveal the greatest expression of Napa Valley terroir.
The “IX Estate” vineyard, comprised of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot, produces a wine of great power and character with towering aromatics of red fruit, savory herbs and spice.

Esteemed wine writer Robert Parker has named Colgin as “one of the fifty greatest wine estates in the world.”
